Vocational Training and Supported Employment
Lafourche Arc operates center-based workshops in Thibodaux and Lockport, a satellite workshop at Peltier-Lawless Developmental Center and a sign shop located in the Lafourche Arc's main office. All of these facilities provide pre-vocational and vocational skills training to individuals with developmental disabilities from the age of 22 years old and up.
Individuals earn wages by performing such jobs as making street and business signs, cutting engineering and form stakes, assembling flatware packs, producing decorative arrangements and ceramics, sorting and packaging for individual businesses, vending machines, in-house laundry and recycling products such as cans, Mardi Gras beads, hangers and clothes. The agency provides mobile crews for cleaning services to offices, churches and private homes. Mobile crews also provide for cardboard recycling.
Currently, there are a number of individuals placed in competitive jobs. Examples of employment include: clerical worker at a local business, general laborer for a government agency, warehouse worker, lobby workers at a local restaurant, grocery store "fronter," and greeter for a retail store.
