ABOUT LAFOURCHE ARC

Lafourche Arc is a private non-profit organization which began operation in 1963 to provide services to each and every individual who is a part of our Lafourche Arc family..  Prior to that time, there were no services of any kind available in Lafourche Parish for people with developmental/intellectual disabilities.  Today the agency provides a wide array of supports to approximately 250 individuals with various types of disabilities throughout a seven parish area.

The first programs were Day Development Training Centers which evolved into workshops that focused on productivity and skill development.  Residential programs began in the early 1980s and Lafourche Arc opened our first community home in 1983 in Thibodaux.  We presently operate six community homes throughout Lafourche Parish.

With the addition of Medicaid waiver programs, Lafourche Arc began providing Community Supports & Services within individuals’ homes and in the community.  The growth in this program has allowed Lafourche Arc to become a regional provider, servicing seven parishes, including Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, St. Mary, St. James, St. John, & St. Charles.

Caring for people with disabilities isn’t just what we do — it’s who we are.  For more than 60 years, our team has been devoted to improving the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities. We respect all individuals with their unique capabilities, allowing them to feel accepted and able to contribute fully to their community.

The work we do takes a network of helpers. Working closely with volunteers, educators and professionals on the local, state and national levels, we’re able to deliver the best support possible to each and every client who calls Arc home. Above all, we run our organization with the idea that all people — regardless of their ability — deserve to live life to their fullest potential. And we’ll be there to help them every step of the way.
